Everything you ever needed to know

1990 I love you!

So yesterday, I got in my car and our local radio station (that plays random hits from every genre and decade) had two blasts from the past in a row:

Can't Touch This and I've Got the Power

I may have been doing the sitting down version of the running man while I drove... Maybe.

My son could not believe I've Got the Power was ever a hit. I wanted to tell him that it was the Uptown Funk of its day. I did, however, share that when the song came out I thought they were singing:

"Skinny, skinny, skinny, kinda heavy"

Rather than: "It's getting, getting, getting kinda hectic." I'm kind of infamous among my friends for getting song lyrics wrong so this is just yet another example.

All of this is to distract you from the lack of glowing reports about how I've jumped back into fitness and am killing it with my mileage and losing weight at an amazing pace....

I have been able to get a workout 3-4 days out of the week but the running is just sad. I tell myself to just take it slow. It's not like I want to sign up for any more half marathons - it really is just about getting out there and being active again. Being outside on the nicer spring days is a real joy.

The real problem is my current caffeine and sugar addictions. It's a mean beast living within me. But I hate the way clothes are looking on me right now and my overall feeling of being tired all the time. So something's gotta give.

Until then...

Kind of trying

A couple weeks back the hubby and I had the serious conversation of, "we're getting way off track, it's time to change things, we must watch our diet, we must exercise more!" And then I ate another cookie - we've had a lot of snow days recently and the kids like to make cookies when we're stuck at home.

But over the past week or so I've thrown on my running shoes and went back to weeks 3 and 4 of the couch to 5k plan. I got in 4 miles of a run/walk on Saturday this past weekend - it was actually warm and dry enough to do it outside. Anything more than 2 miles inside is just painfully boring.

So I'm starting again, kind of. The diet still needs serious attention. I've gained back 14 pounds in the last 9 months. I was kind of surprised it wasn't more but still it's too much. I know what I have to do: serious monitoring/diet journal and cardio exercise plus toning 5-6 days a week. However, what the mind knows and what the mind is willing to do are often different.

But even though this is a boring entry I thought I'd pop my head back in and say hello. If nothing else maybe journaling my exercise will help me get on track again.
